Britney Spears to Receive Millennium Award and Perform Medley of Her Hits at 2016 Billboard Music Awards

The pop star is being honored with the Millennium Award at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards, where she will perform a medley of her classic songs, Billboard and Dick Clark Productions announced on Monday.

"Serving up the best for the @bbmas," the singer shared via Instagram on Monday. "Performing some of your favorite songs on May 22nd on ABC! #BBMAs."

The Billboard Millennium Award honors artists with exceptional achievements and influence in the music industry. Spears began her career with her hit "...Baby One More Time," which eventually went 14 times platinum in the U.S. alone and blazed a path for 23 future Top 40 singles. In the U.S. alone, she's reportedly sold over 70 million albums, singles and songs, cementing her legacy as a pop icon.

Spears will actually only be the third recipient of the show's prestigious honor, which was last awarded in 2012 to the late Whitney Houston, and accepted by her daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, who died last July at the age of 22.
A year before that, the award was given to Beyonce, who proceeded to put on (sorry, Kanye'ing here a bit) probably the best musical performance of all time.
